Hess Hip to Discover Zip

Retailer will accept payment device at more than 870 locations
NEW YORK -- Hess Corp. will now accept Discover Financial Services' Discover Zip payment devices at more than 870 company-operated Hess and Hess Express locations along the eastern United States by the end of the year. Zip payment devices can be issued by banks in many forms. In addition to the traditional bank card or key chain fob, Discover's new mini-adhesive card can be attached to personal items that are always at hand, such as a mobile phone, PDA or MP3 player.

Purchases are made with a quick tap of these devices on a Zip reader found at the checkout. Cardholders also [image-nocss] benefit from additional security, because the card never leaves the customer's hand.

"Customers value the flexibility and control that Zip payment devices offer," said Farhan Ahmad, general manager of prepaid and director of emerging payments. "Merchants and issuers also appreciate the point-of-sale efficiencies afforded by the Zip technology. It's a win-win for those on both sides of the cash register."

Rick Lawlor, vice president of retail sales and marketing for Hess, said, "We are committed to introducing new ways to provide a great experience for Hess customers. By accepting Discover Zip, customers will enjoy even greater speed, security and convenience when they visit a Hess or Hess Express location."
