High's Haiti Relief Campaign Raises More Than $10,000

Sent 100% of weekly donations to speed use of funds

HANOVER, Md. -- High's of Baltimore Inc. said that customers of its 70 High's Dairy Stores collectively donated more than $10,000 to the company's Haiti Earthquake Relief Campaign. At checkout store associates asked customers if they would like to make a $1 donation to the campaign which was in association with the American Red Cross.

"We're extremely proud of our customers and store associates for their combined effort and generosity," said Bill Darnell, president and chief operating officer of High's of Baltimore. "I am very happy that we were able to facilitate this [image-nocss] program for such a worthy cause."

High's forwarded 100% of donations to the American Red Cross weekly in an effort get funds put to use as quickly as possible. The American Red Cross indicated that donations would be used to provide food, water, clothing and medical and emotional support for victims of the devastating earthquakes.

"The American Red Cross has provided more than three million prepackaged meals, distributed more than one million water-purification sachets and is providing relief items such as blankets, kitchen supplies, hygiene kits and buckets," said Linnea Anderson, a spokesperson for the Red Cross in Maryland. "As the response progresses and recovery begins, the Red Cross with the help of generous partners like High's customers, will continue to support these priority areas and longer-term assistance initiatives."

The campaign, which was implemented immediately following the tragic disaster, ran for four weeks.

High's of Baltimore is a privately owned and operated chain of 70 convenience stores headquartered in Hanover, Md. The stores operate in Maryland and Delaware under the name High's Dairy Stores, and they sell a wide range of convenience items, including bread, sweet and salty snacks, dairy and ice cream products, deli sandwiches, subs and wraps, coffee and fountain drinks and assorted edible and nonedible grocery items. In 54 sites, High's also offers customers gasoline, diesel and kerosene fuels.
