"We are proud to support BC Children's Hospital," said Joe Calderone, retail sales manager for Imperial Oil. "It provides vital health services to the [image-nocss] children of British Columbia and the Yukon."
Esso retailers in B.C., with support from Imperial Oil's Esso Community Fund, are also donating $35,000 to sponsor the 24th annual 2009 HSBC Childrun, another Miracle Weekend fundraising event.
The run, in support of childhood cancer research and programs at BC Children's Hospital, is scheduled for June 7, 2009. Esso is the Corporate Team Sponsor. More than 5,500 people are expected to take part by running or walking a route of one- or five-kilometers. Since 1985, the run has raised more $2.5 million for oncology research and services.
Imperial Oil Ltd., which owns the Esso brand, has been contributing to communities across Canada for more than 127 years. Also, Imperial Oil, in partnership with its employees and retirees, contributed nearly $3.2 million to the 2008 United Way-Centraide campaign across Canada.

It saw employees participate as volunteers in Day of Caring activities, which benefited a variety of different agencies across Canada. Employees also took part in successful fundraising events that included a chili cookoff, bake sales, canoe races, a Tiger Walk and a very popular employee game show event.

Meanwhile, in Hawaii, 11 Tesoro gas stations lowered their gasoline prices up to 8 cents per gallon on all grades last Thursday and Friday for the fourth annual "Fueling Dreams" fundraiser benefiting the Hawaii Special Olympics. The participating locations gave the discount gasoline prices from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day. For every $5 donation, customers received an entry blank for a drawing to win two months of free gasoline in the form of a $500 Tesoro fuel card. Customers who donated $20 or more received a free commemorative Special Olympics Hawaii "Fueling Dreams" t-shirt.
Tesoro Hawaii employees and local law enforcement officials from the Honolulu Police Department and other law enforcement officials teamed up to pump gasoline for customers and wipe their windshields, while also collecting donations for Special Olympics Hawaii. Last year, through the generosity of customers, Tesoro raised $40,000 for Special Olympics Hawaii over a 12-hour period.
The company has a network of 33 Tesoro branded retail self-service stations, including 23 Oahu stations, six Big Island stations and four Maui stations; 2Go Tesoro retail stores at 13 company-operated stations on Oahu, three on Maui and three on the Big Island.
