PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Walter Kalil of Newburyport, N.H., has won free gasoline for a year from Irving Oil. Kalil is one of six New England residents who will receive $2,100 worth of Irving fuel cards for participating in the Irving Rewards gasoline savings program.
Irving Oil launched its Rewards program for customers on June 1. Irving Rewards allows consumers to save on gasoline at more than 300 participating Irving locations in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Every $200 in fuel purchases earns 10 cents off per gallon at the next fillup. In Massachusetts, customers can save at 34 participating Irving locations.
More than 80,000 customers registered their Irving Rewards cards online since the program began in June. Kalil was one of nearly 61,000 who entered to win free gasoline for a year or one of 100 Irving gift cards for $100.
Due to the success of Irving Rewards, the program was extended until December 31, 2011. All rewards are redeemable by January 31, 2012.
Harry Hadiaris, general manager of Irving Oil, said, "Now that the program has been extended through December, we encourage families to continue to fuel up and save."
Irving also deployed "Rewards Street Teams" throughout New England this summer, rewarding lucky customers at select locations with Irving tote bags that were randomly filled with gift cards ranging from $20 to $100. In total Irving distributed $6,000 in gift cards.
In other company news, Irving Oil's Fuel the Care program marked its 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, Fuel the Care has provided fuel gift cards to more than 35,000 families with children who require medical care throughout Atlantic Canada and New England.
Irving Oil's Fuel the Care is administered to families in Maine through social workers and hospital administrators at EMHS. With many families facing monthly travel costs of several hundred dollars for accommodation, food and other necessities, Fuel the Care gives them one less thing to worry about.
Four additional hospitals participate in the Fuel the Care program in Atlantic Canada and New England: the Saint John Regional Hospital in Saint John, New Brunswick; the Janeway Child Health and Rehabilitation Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland; the IWK Health Centre in Nova Scotia and the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (CHaD) in New Hampshire.
Meanwhile, Irving Oil recently unveiled a $250,000 contribution to the future of the qplex, the largest and newest recreation complex in Quispamsis, N.B. John Decourcey of Irving Oil presented the contribution to Quispamsis mayor Murray Driscoll at center ice in front of a sold-out crowd of 1,500 hockey fans prior to a Saint John Sea Dogs exhibition game. Serving thousands of residents in the Greater Saint John area, the qplex is a $24.5 million multi-purpose recreation facility featuring an NHL-sized ice surface, outdoor pool, walking track and 4,000-square-foot conference center.
Portsmouth, N.H.-based Irving Oil, a privately owned regional refining and marketing company, operates Canada's largest refinery in Saint John, N.B., and has nearly 900 gas stations and travel plazas in New England and Eastern Canada.
