Irving Oil's Annual Fueling Dreams Raises Funds for Special Olympics

Circle K locations in New England participating for the first year
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Irving Oil has once again teamed up with law enforcement officers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts for its annual Fueling Dreams campaign for The Special Olympics. On June 6 and 7, Irving Oil donated a percentage of every gallon of gasoline purchased to the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the largest fundraiser worldwide for the Special Olympics.

This is also the first year that Circle K locations throughout the region will be participating.

Law enforcement officers have designated June 6 as their annual To Serve and Protect Day. As [image-nocss] part of the day's activities, enforcement officers will work alongside Irving employees and Special Olympics' athletes and coaches to pump gas, wash windows and greet customers. The event took place at all participating Irving and Circle K gas stations throughout New England.

"The Fueling Dreams To Serve and Protect event has grown to a level we never could have imagined," said Mike Quinn, President, Special Olympics New Hampshire. "We couldn't be more pleased than to have the management staff of Irving and Circle K, as well as law enforcement representatives, support this event. The generous support that we receive has an enormous impact on not only our athletes, but also their families, friends and communities. Special Olympics New Hampshire is pleased and thankful to have such a caring, community-minded corporate partner in Irving Oil and Circle K."

Irving Oil started its Fueling Dreams program in 1999 and since its inception has raised more than $1.3 million. According to Irving's Fuel Marketing Manager Aaron Dube, the partnership with the Special Olympics organizations improves every year. Last year's event alone, Dube said, raised about $250,000.

"We have an opportunity to work alongside so many talented and special athletes whose enthusiasm and excitement is so rewarding," said Dube. "Each year the event attracts more and more people who want to do their part in helping thousands of athletes achieve their dreams."

Mike Quinn, president Special Olympics New Hampshire, said "This is a true community event. In New Hampshire alone, this directly impacts the lives of over 3,000 athletes with intellectual challenges in 100 communities. These athletes live their oath: 'Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt'."

Irving Oil is a regional refining and marketing company serving customers in New England (from Portsmouth, N.H.) and Eastern Canada (from Saint John, N.B.) with a range of finished energy products, including gasoline and complementary products and services. Irving is a community sponsor of The Special Olympics, the Head Start Program and created the Fuel the Care program in 1997.
