Taylor, Mich.-based Atlas Oil Co., Kingdom Christian Center Church and WYPW Power 95.7 FM gave away $15 worth of free gasoline to each of the first 200 customers at an undisclosed South Bend, Ind., area Phillips 66 gas station on Sunday, March 15, for its "Economic Stimulus" promotion. WYPW announced the exact location for the giveaway on air, just minutes before this promotion began.

"We know that some people are struggling right now and we want to let these people know that we care," said Pastor Canneth J. Lee of Kingdom Christian Center Church. The members of the church raised $2,000 to sponsor the event, while Atlas Oil, which supplies fuel to 354 gas stations throughout the Midwest, donated $1,000. Additionally, over 50 Kingdom Christian Center Church members were on location pumping fuel and washing windows. The station owner donated free coffee and fountain drinks to all who attended.

Customers seemed leery of the tall blond in a ball gown behind the Kwik Trip counter on Tuesday, though many couldn't keep from staring. The location's general manager Ed Houser spent the day in drag to fulfill a bet, reported The Rochester Post-Bulletin.

About a month ago, all of the Kwik Trips were having a "focus day," where each store focuses heavily on selling one item. Slices of pizza for a $1 were the focus last month, as they were again on Tuesday, said the report. To inspire his staff of 20, Houser offered to make a bet with them. If they sold 300 slices in one day, he would either shave his head or wear a dress for a day. "Next time, I'll shave my head," he said.

Meals on Wheels of Chemung County in New York recently received a check for $2,500 from Buffalo, N.Y.-based Wilson Farms/Sugarcreek as part of "Step Up to the Plate," a campaign with the Meals on Wheels Foundation of Western New York Inc. to raise funds for senior nutrition programs, reported The Elmira Star-Gazette.

Initiated in 2004, the drive was launched to increase awareness of senior nutrition programs throughout New York state. Customers at Wilson Farms, Sugarcreek and Wilson Farms Xpress Stores have the option to purchase one dollar "plate logos," with the promise that the total money raised will support the nutrition program in their community. In 2008, the drive raised $32,000 from October 31 to November 29.
