Kum & Go Springs for Gas

Offering 150 motorists free fuel to celebrate entry into Colorado Springs market

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Kum & Go LC, which opened its first Pikes Peak-region convenience store this summer, will reward 150 motorists with free fillups this week at three locations to mark its entrance into the local market, reported The Gazette.

The company opened its first in Colorado Springs on June 1; the other locations opened earlier this month. It said that it expects to open five more area stores by year's end.

Kum & Go said earlier this year that it plans a total of 20 to 25 stores over five years in the Pikes Peak region. The company says its investment--including 5,000-square-foot, company-owned stores built from the ground up--will total about $90 million.

The first 50 motorists at each of three Colorado Springs Kum & Go locations at the specified times--noon Thursday, 5:00 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday, respectively--will receive up to 12 gallons of gasoline. The stores also will offer discounts on food and beverage items, such as hot and cold fountain drinks for 25 cents and pizza slices for $1, said the report.

The chain is seeking to build relationships in the area through its investment in new stores and with charitable donations, Kum & Go CEO Kyle Krause told the newspaper.

Lines will form one hour before the free fillups begin, and Kum & Go employees will pump the gas, the report said.

West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go is the fifth largest privately held, company-operated convenience store chain in the United States. The family-owned company began in 1959, in Hampton, Iowa, and has grown to more than 400 convenience stores in 11 states (Iowa, Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming). In addition to a wide selection of products, Kum & Go provides customers a proprietary mix of products under the Hiland brand name. Other proprietary product offerings include Java Ridge Premium Coffee, Napa Creek and Sea Ridge wines, Go Fresh Market sandwiches and Nuclear energy drinks.
