NACS launches online interchange petition campaign, supplements in-store petitions
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) is launching a campaign, Fightswipefees.com, on December 15 to generate millions of consumer signatures from convenience store customers and encouraging Congress to reform unfair credit and debit card interchange (or "swipe") fees. More than 10,000 convenience stores are gearing up to collect consumer petitions in their stores. The group went live with the online component of the campaign yesterday.

Fightswipefees.comis the new online face of the consumer advocacy campaign, NACS said.

Through this site, convenience store customers can learn more about the effect of hidden swipe fees, sign an online petition to Congress and write a letter to their U.S. senators and representatives.

NACS added, "If you are among the 10,000-plus retailers who are collecting signatures in your stores, this website provides you another opportunity to rally your customers to this worthwhile cause. If you are not collecting signatures in your stores, Fightswipefees.com is a fantastic opportunity for you to help the effort by enabling your customers to speak out through the Internet."

The Alexandria, Va.-based trade association is encouraging all retailers to incorporate Fightswipefees.com into the emails they distribute to their customer databases and to use the graphics on their homepages to hyperlink to the online petition site. Also, NACS said that if they use social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter, they should let their followers and fans know about this important industry initiative.

"Spread the wordthe more consumers we enlist in this effort, the stronger our message will be to Capitol Hill," NACS said.
