Little General Partners With Remember the Miners for Bridge Day

Extreme sports event features BASE jumping

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. -- Remember the Miners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring coal miners and their legacy through public awareness campaigns and charitable contributions, has announced a partnership with Little General Stores during the 32nd Annual Bridge Day in New River Gorge, W.Va.

As part of Little General's charitable partnership, Remember the Miners will share space in booths eight and nine. Remember The Miners will have its branded awareness merchandise for purchase, including t-shirts, hats and other memorabilia. Proceeds from sales made on Bridge Day will benefit the Remember The Miners Scholars Program, the flagship scholarship that provides financial scholastic aid to miners, dependents of miners and those pursuing higher education in the mining industry.

"Little General is excited to join with Remember the Miners at Bridge Day. As one of the largest tourist events in West Virginia, it is a perfect time to showcase the proud tradition of mining coal in West Virginia and the pride Little General has in our coal mining families," said Greg Darby, president of Little General. "Once again, we are honored to join with Remember the Miners on important work that matters to the Little General family, our customers, and the people of West Virginia."

Bridge Day is the largest extreme sports event in the world and held annually on the third Saturday in October in Fayette County, W.Va. Hundreds of BASE jumpers and nearly 80,000 spectators are expected to attend the event, which will take place this year on October 15.

Jason Parsons, director of Remember the Miners, added, "The Remember the Miners team looks forward to celebrating Bridge Day with Little General. The men and women of the coal industry mine the coal that powers America and we should always remember them--whenever we flip on the lights and go about our daily business."

He added, "West Virginia is a great place to visit because of the kindness of our people, the excitement of the outdoors, and the splendid beauty of our landscape. If you are from West Virginia, take a minute to remember the miners during Bridge Day; if you are one of the thousands of tourists from around the country, remember the coal miners--who are West Virginians--that provide the energy that gives us the comforts and conveniences in our everyday lives."

Little General has been a supporter of Remember the Miners in multiple efforts this year, including a donation to the Scholars Program, becoming the point of sale for Remember the Miners' awareness coal miner helmet magnets and hosting a series of awareness concerts. In honor of Bridge Day, the grand finale of the Awareness Concert Series will take place the same day at Little General's Fayetteville location. West Virginia native Matt Jones, popular for his country songs that he produced and recorded in the heart of coal country, will star.

Remember the Miners is a public awareness campaign dedicated to honoring the legacy of all miners and the mining industry, bringing the human element to the forefront of the energy debate, and remembering the miners who have fallen. The RTM Scholars Program, in conjunction with the West Virginia Coal Foundation, benefits dependents of miners by raising funds for the purpose of education within the mining industry. The group also raises awareness about the sacrifices miners and their families make for the country.
