RUPERT, Idaho -- Zombies took to the street in Rupert, Idaho, this weekend as part of the 5K Zombie Run to prevent Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus in third world countries. In a joint venture between Maverik convenience stores and the Rupert Kiwanis Club, the two groups raised funds to fight against a disease known to cause excruciating suffering and death among women and their newborns.
The event, held Saturday night as a run-up to Halloween, began at a Maverik store in Rupert. Racers were encouraged to dress up as Zombies or in other Halloween costumes. Cost was $15 per ticket per person or $25 for families.
In exchange, Maverik provided racers with coffee mugs and a $5 Maverik gift certificate.
North Salt Lake, Utah-based Maverik sponsors similar themed runs in other communities, as well.
