NATSO Rolling Out ‘Park My Truck’ App

Truckstop group champions highway safety initiative

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Beginning in late summer, truck drivers who need to stop and rest will be able to use a new, free mobile app called Park My Truck to locate available truck parking, NATSO president and CEO Lisa Mullings announced at a recent press conference on Capitol Hill during NATSO’s annual call on Washington.

Mullings joined representatives of the American Trucking Associations, the American Transportation Research Institute and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance in urging truck parking providers to participate in a new highway safety initiative aimed at helping commercial truck drivers find available truck parking.

“There is no greater cause on our nation’s highways than that of the safety of the traveling public,” said Mullings. “This truck parking leadership initiative will advance safety on the highways for all drivers by helping commercial drivers to more easily find and utilize existing truck parking capacity.”

Joining the groups at the press conference were Bill Shuster (R-Pa.), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), ranking member of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee; and Rep. Paul Tonko (D.-N.Y.).

Shuster said Park My Truck is “a great example of an innovative private-sector solution.”

This initiative and Park My Truck were developed based on feedback from professional drivers and trucking companies who often describe truck parking availability as a critical need.

Administered by the NATSO Foundation, this app represents the first time a national source for truck parking information has been available to America’s truck drivers.

The groups encouraged all parking providers—including truckstops travel centers, rest areas and others—to participate in the initiative by reporting the number of spaces available in their lots.
