NCASEF, 7-Eleven, Suppliers Team Up for Charities

Fundraising efforts yield $410,000 for Hire Heroes USA, Susan G. Komen

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The National Coalition of Associations of 7-Eleven Franchisees (NCASEF) has announced that it has raised $410,000 for two charities during its 37th National Convention & Trade Show held in Honolulu last month.

It raised a total of $340,000 for Hire Heroes USA, a nonprofit organization offering transition assistance, job search assistance and job placement services to those veterans injured or disabled in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operating Enduring Freedom.

Between May 1 and June 30, in concert with 7-Eleven Inc. and 13 top suppliers, 7-Eleven franchisees raised funds through the sales of 39 specific products offered by the brand-name companies who donated a portion of each sale to the fundraising effort.

Participating companies included Anheuser-Busch InBev, BIC, Dr Pepper Snapple, Hershey, Kellogg's, Kraft, Mars, MillerCoors, Nestle Professional, Nestle Waters, PepsiCo and Perfetti van Melle. It raised additional funds through the Joe Saraceno Memorial Golf Tournament held during the convention.

NCASEF also raised $70,000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which it will donate in October during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It raised the funds through live and silent auctions as well as a raffle during the organization's convention.

"We are honored to be able to make these donations to two very worthy charities," said Bruce Maples, chairman of the coalition. "This marks the third in a three-year commitment to Hire Heroes USA, and with this year's donation we have now contributed more than three quarters of a million dollars to this outstanding organization."

He added, "Our donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure is special to us as well, as this year marks the 30th anniversary of the organization which has done so much to raise awareness in an effort to end breast cancer. We're very proud that our 7-Eleven family and our customers have all contributed to these charities and we look forward to continuing with our tradition of giving back to our communities and our nation."

Brian Stann, president and CEO of Hire Heroes USA said, "Once again we were blown away by the NCASEF's dedication to our nation's veterans. The NCASEF continues to be the largest donor for Hire Heroes USA and the reason for our continued expansion of services for veterans. We owe so much of our success to the men and women of the NCASEF."

NCASEF is the national trade group for U.S. 7-Eleven storeowners, representing the interests of more than 3,400 convenience store owners whose 5,468 franchise-owned stores employ nearly 40,000 workers.
