OMEGA Helps YMCA W. Va.

And Irving Oil donates playground to N.B. school

DANIELS, W.Va. -- West Virginia's Oil Marketers & Grocers Association (OMEGA) handed over a check for $77,000 to the YMCAs of West Virginia late last week, reported The State Journal.

The industry association held a golf tournament at the Resort at Glade Springs to cap off a monthlong campaign called Get Movin' West Virginia. Stores across the state sold paper Ys for $1 during the month of August.

OMEGA representatives said raising money to support afterschool programs at the YMCA was an easy decision.

Separately, Saint John, New Brunswick-based Irving Oil has donated and installed new playground equipment for the students at Bayview Elementary School. The school has been without equipment for the last two years. In July 2005, a fire destroyed the original school, which temporarily relocated, and then in September 2006, it moved into the former Simonds Middle School.

Irving Oil heard about the school's playground situation and offered to purchase and install new equipment. Over the weekend, more than 20 employees volunteered their time to install the equipment.

This will be the second playground that Irving Oil has donated and installed at an elementary school in the Saint John area. In November 2005, Irving Oil provided Champlain Heights Elementary with a new playground. The company also has a partnership with St. John the Baptist-King Edward (SJBKE) Elementary School as part of the Partners Assisting Local Schools (PALS) program. More than 70 Irving Oil employees volunteer at SJBKE each week, mentoring the students to help build literacy and homework skills, among other areas of study and help.

Irving Oil is the regional refining and marketing company serving customers in Eastern Canada, Quebec and New England with a range of finished energy products, including gasoline, diesel, home heating fuel, jet fuel and complementary products and services. The company has a network of Bluecanoe and Mainway convenience stores throughout Eastern Canada and New England.
