ExxonMobil, Kum & Go, BP roll out contests, offers

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Memorial Day is the official start of summer.and along with the sizzling of steaks on the grill and the buzz of the lawn mower, consumer promotions are in the air. ExxonMobil, Kum & Go and BP have all recently announced new offers.

Exxon Mobil Corp., the official fuel provider of college savings service Upromise, will award $250 to 500 winners this summer through its ExxonMobil Upromise Summer Promotion. Beginning today, June 1, through August 31, all Upromise members who make a gasoline purchase at an Exxon or Mobil station with [image-nocss] a registered credit or debit card registered will receive one entry.

Winners will be selected through a random drawing to be held on or about Oct. 15, 2005. Winners will be notified approximately four weeks following the close of the promotion. Due to state law restrictions, residents of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey are not eligible for the promotion. Gasoline purchases in those four states will not count as an entry in the promotion.

The ExxonMobil Upromise Summer Promotion' is another indication of ExxonMobil's ongoing support for education, said Mark Shores, U.S. retail sales director, ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing. We are pleased to play a part in helping our customers and their children save towards a college education. We're also glad that our involvement with Upromise enables us to reward our most loyal customers.

And as reported in CSP Daily News, ExxonMobil already announced its summer Speedpass promotion, which also begins today and goes through August 31. ExxonMobil will provide a five-cent per gallon discount to new Speedpass members for 90 days (up to a maximum of $20 per account) in most states on all purchases made with their Speedpass device. The discount will be posted to the credit card account to which the Speedpass device is linked. In states where this discount is prohibited by law (New Jersey, Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina), new Speedpass customers will receive a $20 statement credit for activating an account.

The second aspect of the program offers both new and existing Speedpass customers a single-serve bottle of water with any qualifying in-store purchase of $3 or more (excluding lottery) at participating On the Run, Exxon- or Mobil-branded retailers.

At West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & Go, as part of its Keep on Truckin' summer promotion, it will give away four entire tankers of gasoline8,200 gallons in each tankertotaling 32,800 gallons of gasoline, valued at $16,154 each, to four motorists. That is enough fuel to fill a 20-gallon tank 410 times or a 15-gallon tank 546 times, the company said.

The contest began May 23 and ends September 5.

This is a first of its kind promotion for Kum & Go, said Kyle Krause, president of Kum & Go, West Des Moines, Iowa. It is an exciting way to show our genuine appreciation to our loyal customers.

The promotion is open to Kum & Go customers who are residents in one of the 13 states in which Kum & Go operates, including Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Colorado, Arkansas, Wyoming and Wisconsin. Customers in these states can complete a registration form at any one of the 425 Kum & Go stores to be eligible to win.

And Chicago-based BP has launched its Gold Standard promotion to reward consumers who purchase Amoco Ultimate premium fuel at participating BP locations from June 1 through August 2.

Gold Standard participants will have the chance to win more than 100,000 gasoline-related prizes, including five Gas for Life grand prizes. To ensure all prizes are claimed by consumers, the promotion includes a second chance to win any unclaimed prizes.

The Gold Standard promotion features a scratch-and-win game card that can be played onsite at participating BP locations by customers who purchase eight or more gallons of Amoco Ultimate in a single visit. To receive the game card, customers are required to show a valid receipt to their cashier upon date of purchase. BP customers are eligible to play the Gold Standard promotion each time they purchase the required amount of Amoco Ultimate during the promotion period. Customers who received nonwinning cards will have a second chance to win. Customers can also request a game card by mail.

Gold Standard Grand Prize winners will be awarded one $1,200 Amoco Ultimate prepaid gas card (or equivalent chosen by sponsor) beginning in 2005 and continuing each year for 50 years. Other consumer prizes include a $1,200 Amoco Ultimate Prepaid Gas Card for one year from BP (25 first-prize winners); a $10 Amoco Ultimate Prepaid Gas Card (1,000 second-prize winners); and a $5 Amoco Ultimate Prepaid Gas Card (100,000 third-prize winners). By law, the contest excludes residents of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia.

The Gold Standard promotion will be supported with a national marketing campaign that includes onsite point-of-purchase (POP) materials at all participating locations and radio advertisements, billboards and professional site greeters in select markets.
