Industry, Vegas favor the Giants over the Patriots in Super Bowl

OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Which is more super, the Super Bowl or Super Tuesday? Among CSP Daily News readers, it's a dead heat. When asked which "super" event they were most anxious to see the results of in a Kraft/CSP Daily News Poll, at presstime, each option earned an equal 41% of the vote. The remaining 18% said neither.

Meanwhile, prior to the last round of the NFL playoffs, you would have been hard-pressed to find industry retailers or suppliers who thought the New York Giants would go to the Super Bowl on Sunday and win it. In a separate Kraft/CSP Daily News Poll run the week before the [image-nocss] Giants knocked the Green Bay Packers out of contention, only 8% of the more then 300 respondents speculated that the Giants would go all the way.

A week later, CSP Daily News readers are giving the New York team a little better odds. In the most recent poll, a full one-third of the 300-plus respondents said the Giants will knock off the heavily favored New England Patriots.

The odds-makers are favoring the Patriots by nearly two touchdowns, but with quarterback Tom Brady hobbling around on a walking cast, anything could happen.

But for the Patriots, history is on the line. If they pull out a victory Sunday, they will be among the few NFL teams to ever go undefeated for an entire season. That fact itself is swaying some football fans.

So, can the Patriots top the Giants in the Super Bowl in the Home of the Cardinals in Phoenix to take home their 4th Vince Lombardi Trophy in 7 years?

CSP went to the experts—industry retailers and suppliers—to get down to brass tax for this first CSPTV sports report.
