Rewarding 'Richmonders'

Ukrop's, Uppy's C-Stores launch fuelperks! program
RICHMOND, Va. -- Two businesses are partnering to give "Richmonders"residents of the Richmond, Va.-areasignificant discounts on fuel purchases at selected participating gas stations. Officials with Ukrop's Super Markets Inc. and Uppy's Convenience Stores Inc. at a news conference on Thursday unveiled a new customer loyalty program. A pilot program launches on Monday, June 30, to offer Richmond-area Ukrop's customers substantial price reductions at 14 gas stations operated by Uppy's and supplied by Southside Oil.

The number of participating stations will increase daily to more [image-nocss] than 30 by the end of the summer.

The fuelperks! program rewards customers with savings of 10 cents per gallon of fuel for every $50 of groceries they buy at any Ukrop's or Joe's Market location. The discounts, which can add up over multiple grocery purchases, are for up to 20 gallons of fuel per transaction. For example, a customer spending $100 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of 20 cents per gallon; a customer spending $250 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of 50 cents per gallon; and a customer spending $500 at Ukrop's will earn a discount of $1 per gallon.

The discount is valid for one use, up to 20 gallons. After customers redeem their rewards, they start earning a new discount based on their qualifying grocery purchases. Customers may check their grocery receipt for their fuelperks! balance.

Certain nondiscountable items, such as gift card purchases, are not currently included in the program.

Customers do not need to spend $50 in one visit. Ukrop's will automatically track eligible spending of households using Ukrop's Valued Customer cards. The rewards expire three months after a customer earns them. Customers must use a wallet-sized UVC card with a magnetic stripe to redeem fuelperks!. Customers who use a keytag UVC card or a First Market Bank Market Share Check Card will need to receive a new wallet-sized UVC card to redeem their fuelperks!.

"Our exclusive partnership with Uppy's, another local, family business, is an effort to help Richmonders stretch their grocery and gas dollars. We've designed fuelperks! to be as easy and as convenient as possible and plan to quickly expand the program to more gas stations with Uppy's," said Ukrop's president and CEO Bobby Ukrop.

Chester, Va.-based Uppy's operates 40 locations. Brands include ExxonMobil, BP, Dairy Queen, Subway, Dominic's of New York and Noble Roman Pizza. Its wholesale gasoline distribution company, Southside Oil, serves approximately 80 additional dealer-operated BP and Exxon locations.

Ukrop's, headquartered in Richmond, Va., operates 28 retail food stores, Joe's Market (a regional specialty market), a central bakery and kitchen and a distribution center.
