Rutter's Donates More Than $120,000 to Help Children's Causes

Giving tops $1.5 million for past six years

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's recently made charitable gifts of more than $120,000 to help children's causes, pushing its community giving for the past six years to more than $1.5 million. The convenience retailer also has awarded its final "Fuel Up Free" gasoline prize for this year's contest.

The recent charitable donation recipients include:

York County Library System, $40,000 to support its 2009 summer reading program. Children's Home of York, $36,500 for a kitchen renovation at its George Street Program group home. United Cerebral Palsy of South Central Pennsylvania, $25,000 [image-nocss] for the purchase of equipment for its children's center in York. DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre in York, $15,000 to support its children's programs. Waynesboro Area Business, Education and Community Foundation, $5,000 toward the Adventures in Learning program for middle school students and the Your Employability Skills program for high school students in the Waynesboro Area School District.

"As we enjoy a record year of company investment and growth, we feel fortunate to be able to give back to the customers and communities that help to make Rutter's successful. In particular, we're proud to support these organizations and the work they do to better the lives of children, our most precious resource."

In other company news, Rutter's recently presented its fourth and final "Fuel Up Free" grand prize to Gerald Wishard of Windsor Township, Pa. He won free gasoline for three years, joining the three other grand-prize winners, Kathy Wallick of North York, Pa.; Jason Waltz of Spring Grove, Pa.; and Ollie Gildow of Shrewsbury, Pa.

Family-owned and third-generation managed, York, Pa.-based Rutter's operates 52 convenience stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Franklin and Lancaster counties. The Rutter's companies also include Rutter's Dairy and M&G Realty. Together, the companies employ more than 1,400 people in central Pennsylvania.
