Sheetz Makes Best Work Places List for Seventh Year

State ranking also recognizes company as top retailer
ALTOONA, Pa. -- The Best Places to Work in PA group has ranked Sheetz Inc. as No. 20 on its list of top 50 large companies for 2008. The convenience store has been on this list for seven consecutive years. The announcement made recently in Hershey, Pa., recognized Sheetz as the No. 1 ranked retailer in the state.

Receiving any award based primarily on the opinions of their employees is something that makes the executives at Sheetz very proud, the company said.

"It is truly an honor to be named one of the best employers in our home state of Pennsylvania. It's extra [image-nocss] special because it comes from our employees," said Stephanie Doliveira, vice president, of human resources for Sheetz. "We have great people who make Sheetz a great place to work. I thank them for all that they do to help us deliver quality convenience to our busy customers every day!"

The Best Places to Work in PA program is designed to help companies improve their workplace practices in order to attract and retain the best employees possible. This is all in an effort to help these companies maintain a successful business.

The program is open to all publicly or privately held organizations whether for-profit or nonprofit. The companies must have a facility in Pennsylvania, have at least 25 employees in the state and be in good standing with all Commonwealth agencies under the governor's jurisdiction.

The assessment process is comprised of a two-part survey in which employees are asked to evaluate their workplace experience and the employer is asked to describe its company benefits, policies and practices along with other information.

This provides the Best Companies group with in-depth analysis of the strengths and opportunities that exist to build a better workplace.

"One of our main objectives is to ensure our people to have a good working environment. We want our employees to enjoy coming to work," said Doliveira. "We are always exploring ways to improve the experience for both our customers and our employees. It's great to know that they are as happy with us as we are with them."

Items such as quarterly bonuses, all-expense paid trips to celebrate milestone anniversaries with the company and employee stock ownership programs all help to set Sheetz apart from their competition, said the company.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz, with more than $3.9 billion in revenue for 2008 and more than 11,000 employees, operates more than 350 convenience locations throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
