Spinx to Hold 40th Anniversary Events

Announces charities to benefit from 2012 Spinx Charity Classic golf tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- This year marks 40 years of gasoline-convenience store retailing for The Spinx Co. In 1972, Stewart Spinks, founder and CEO, purchased his first store, located in Greenville, S.C. Since 1972, The Spinx Co. has grown to more than 65 locations employing more than 700 associates in South and North Carolina.

"When I started my company with one service station in 1972, I wanted to make life easier for my customers," said Spinks. "I've been very fortunate to be part of such a great community."

Spinx plans to celebrate the 40th Anniversary with events throughout the year centered on its customers. The company plans to hold a 40th Anniversary Celebration event at a local store every 40 days throughout the year, at which it will give away free gasoline to 40 customers.

The first event kicks off this today, February. The secret store location can be determined through a series of clues posted on the Spinx Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/TheSpinxCompany. Customers can like the Spinx Facebook page to receive alerts on the clues.

"The secret free gas giveaway lets us say 'thank you' to our customers and have a little fun celebration, too," said Spinks.

In addition to store events throughout the year, Spinx will be offering $1,000 scholarships to 40 local high school seniors. The online scholarship application will open March 1, 2012, and will be available on www.myspinx.com. Applications will be accepted through April 27, 2012, with the scholarships being awarded over the summer.

"It's has always been the Spinx philosophy to support children and education and this scholarship program is a great way to help local students achieve their educational goals," said Spinks.

In other company news, Spinx recently announced American Red Cross Greenville Chapter, Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County, JulieValentineCenter, Junior Achievement Upstate, Loaves & Fishes and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas as the beneficiaries of the 2012 Spinx Charity Classic presented by Corporate Benefits.

The golf tournament will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. It will be hosted at two of Greenville's finest private greens, Chanticleer and Riverside Courses. To kick off the tournament, there will be a private pairings party held in Downtown Greenville, S.C., the night prior to the tournament.

"There are so many great nonprofit organizations in this area so it was a difficult selection process. These six organizations meet the Spinx mission, which focuses on improving the health, education and well-being of children," said Spinks.

Based in Greenville, Spinx operates 65 convenience retail stores in South Carolina and North Carolina.
