Stripes Helps United Way

Irving Oil funds summer camp, sponsors free movies with Override
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Susser Holdings Corp. and Stripes Convenience Stores raised more than $300,000 that will go to the 30 United Way organizations in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico where Stripes has stores, through Stripes' annual Turf & Surf Golf & Fishing Tournament, reported The Caller-Times.

The chain gave more than $68,000 to the United Way of the Coastal of the Bend. It also handed a $50,000 check to the United Way of South Texas, added a report by KGBT-TV.

Corpus Christi, Texas-based Susser Holdings Corp. is a third-generation family led [image-nocss] business that operates more than 510 c-stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma under the Stripes and Town & Country banners. Restaurant service is available in more than 290 of its stores, primarily under the proprietary Laredo Taco Co. and Country Cookin' brands. The company also supplies branded motor fuel to approximately 370 independent dealers through its wholesale fuel division.

Separately, as part of its "Fueling the Future" program with St. John the Baptist-King Edward School, this summer season, Irving Oil is providing funding for spaces at summer camp for students attending the school located in Saint John's south end. The FunShine Club will fund 90 spaces at Camp Glenburn and the Glenn Carpenter Centre.

"We are very committed to the students of SJBKE, and the FunShine Club allows us to carry our involvement with the school through the summer months," says Lisa Savidant, coordinator for Irving Oil's partnership with SJBKE. "This program gives kids the opportunity to learn new skills, build self-esteem and create new friendships this summer."

Each week, 90 Irving Oil employees and alumni volunteer to help mentor and support the students and staff of SJBKE. Since 2002, Irving Oil has provided students with new computers, educational school trips, sports uniforms, a new sound system, scholarships and other much needed supplies.

The companyalong with loyalty discount program Overridealso sponsors WBZ's Free Friday Flicks at the Hatch Shell in Boston throughout July and August. There will be giveaways and raffles.

Override, created in July 2007, is a network of retail brands that provides consumers an opportunity to lower their individual price of gasoline at the pump. Consumers can earn fuel savings at participating Shaw's Supermarkets and Dunkin' Donuts, and the opportunity to save is also offered to 27,000 Shaw's employees through the Override employee program. Fuel savings are redeemable at more than 400 participating Irving and Gulf fuel locations throughout New England.
