SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. continued its back-to-school community outreach tradition last week by hosting another "Stuff the Truck" event for the San Antonio Food Bank. Valero Volunteers loaded a San Antonio Food Bank truck with kid-friendly food items that will help stock schools with lunches for children in need.
Valero Volunteers have also teamed up with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio to supply backpacks filled with school supplies to 200 children from three different school districtsSan Antonio ISD, Judson ISD and Harlandale ISD.
More than 150 [image-nocss] of these children joined Valero Volunteers last Friday for breakfast and to receive a backpack from a Valero employee.
This marks the eighth time Valero Volunteers have collected food items for a "Valero Stuff the Truck" effort since Valero purchased and donated a refrigerated truck to the Food Bank in 2008, the company said.
San Antonio-based Valero operates 15 refineries with a combined throughput capacity of approximately 2.8 million barrels per day. It is also a leading ethanol producer with nine ethanol plants in the Midwest with a combined capacity of one billion gallons per year, and is one of the nation's largest retail operators with approximately 5,800 retail and branded wholesale outlets in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean under the Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock, Ultramar and Beacon brands.
