Sunoco Partners With Safeway on Gas Rewards

Brings loyalty program to East Coast c-stores

LANHAM, Md. -- Sunoco LP and Safeway have teamed up to expand Safeway's Gas Rewards program to Sunoco gas stations in parts of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Safeway customers who earn Gas Reward when they shop now have the option of redeeming their rewards, up to 20 cents off per gallon, at Sunoco stations. The expansion of the loyalty program helps to maximize value and savings for both Safeway and Sunoco customers, the companies said.

Previously, Safeway's Gas Rewards, which increase with each $100 spent using a Safeway Club Card, were redeemable only at Safeway fueling stations.

Beyond savings, customers also benefit from the ease with which they can earn and redeem their reward points. More than 120 Safeway stores in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., are offering the program, and approximately 200 Sunoco stations are participating.

"Sunoco is always looking for innovative ways to provide value to our customers and reward them for choosing our brand," said Cynthia A. Archer, Sunoco LP executive vice president and chief marketing officer.

"Our Gas Rewards program is an easy and convenient way to save money while doing something you do every week--shop for groceries," said Dan Valenzuela, president of Safeway’s eastern division. "We're excited to team up with Sunoco, a powerhouse in the fuel industry that has stations throughout the East Coast, to bring Sunoco customers, as well as our own valued customers, additional savings when they fuel up at Sunoco stations."

Customers can register at Safeway.com or by downloading the Safeway app on their Android or iOS devices. With the Gas Rewards program, for every 100 Reward Points earned by shopping at Safeway stores using the Safeway Club Card, customers receive a 10 cent-per-gallon gas reward. Customers earn reward points every time they swipe their club card or input their registered phone number at checkout at their local Safeway store.

Customers receive one point per $1 spent on eligible grocery purchases. They receive one point for every out-of-pocket cost dollar spent on pharmacy, including co-pays. Customers can build up points twice as fast by receiving two points per $1 spent on qualifying gift cards.

Customers redeem their rewards by entering their registered phone number at the pump or inside the station before fueling.

The Gas Rewards program is also available in Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Pavilions and Carrs stores located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Safeway and its eastern division are part of Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons Cos., one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States.
