They Picked the Right Station

EMTs deliver baby at station owned by assistant fire chief

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A baby was born at a Cookeville, Tenn., gas station last Wednesday as his parents were trying to make it to the Cookeville Regional Hospital, reported The Herald-Citizen.

Eight blocks out, the couple knew they weren't going to make it and pulled into Brown's BP Station asked for help. Station personnel called fire and paramedics, who safely delivered the infant in the back seat of the parents' car, Lieutenant Donnie Vinson told the newspaper.

And lucky for them, the station they pulled into is owned and operated by Putnam Fire Department assistant chief Tom Brown, who is accustomed to emergency situations and quickly called for help. "He called EMS and told them to hurry," Vinson said. "We were there within a minute because Firefighter Shawn Hotsinpiller, who is also a paramedic with the Ambulance Service, and his partner, medic Isaiah Allen, happened to be in that area."
