TravelCenters of America Launches 'Citizen Driver' Award Program

Winners will have truckstop named after them

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- TravelCenters of America LLC, operator of the TA and Petro Stopping Centers travel center brands, recently launched a "Citizen Driver" award program, designed to recognize professional drivers who evoke public respect for the truck driving profession through good citizenship, safety, community involvement, health and wellness and leadership.

TravelCenters of America TA Petro Citizen Driver Award

The company introduced the Citizen Driver award program in March.

The official award website, www.ta-petro.com/citizendriveraward, is now accepting professional driver nominations through Nov. 30, 2013. Anyone--fleet owners and executives, co-workers, friends, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, trucking organization members, trucking industry suppliers--may nominate a professional driver for the award.

A panel of distinguished trucking professionals will serve as judges to review the nominations and name finalists and ultimately the grand prize winners. Among other recognition and honors, winners will have a TA or Petro location named after them. All of the prizes for finalists and grand prize winners can be found on the Citizen Driver web pages.

"We are very proud of the men and women who drive trucks and keep America moving," said Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters. "We want to help share their stories within and outside of trucking. We see our Citizen Driver Award as one more step in helping ensure everyone knows all about the great, hardworking, respected men and women that make trucking happen, and we look forward to receiving many nominations and naming multiple winners," he added.

Nominees will be judged on factors including demonstrated, exemplary citizenship in the driving community and otherwise, community involvement, leadership in their personal or professional lives and healthy lifestyle. Winners of the Citizen Driver award will be honored at a special event at the 2014 Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.

The company has nearly 250 full-service locations in 42 states.

In other company news, TravelCenters recently presented a BP Fueling Communities grant donation of $30,000 to the St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund (SCF), a nonprofit organization that provides direct assistance to professional truck drivers whose medical problems have led to financial hardship.

The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP's branded marketers to support the communities in which they do business. Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing, to spread charity and goodwill.

"We are thrilled that BP's Fueling Communities program has again awarded the SCF this grant, totaling $90,000 over the last three years," said O'Brien. "SCF is near and dear to our heart and the hearts of our customers. It's wonderful to be able to help professional drivers with financial burdens they are facing due to illness."

TravelCenters has provided support to the SCF since 2010 through the company's annual "Band Together for the SCF" fundraising campaign, as well as smaller collection efforts at tradeshows and employee events throughout the year. To date, TravelCenters has helped raise more than $800,000 for the charity. During this time, the SCF has provided financial support to more than 700 professional drivers for prescription medications, living expenses and medical procedures.
