Ultramar Unveils Gift Card Program

Fanbox program delivers customized offers to members

MONTREAL -- Ultramar, which has nearly 800 corporate and partner gas stations and convenience stores across Canada, has rolled out a comprehensive gift card program developed by relational technology and loyalty program provider Fanbox.

Ultramar chose Fanbox because of the various features offered by its MS2 platform.

Integrated into both the till and pay-at-the-pump systems, the program developed by Fanbox manages gift cards in real time. In order to integrate the system into the pumps and provide special features related to gasoline sales, Fanbox had to make the program effective and fully customized.

"We are very excited about this new gift card program, which will certainly continue to evolve over the long term through new features and the flexibility allowed by Fanbox's MS2 platform," said Ultramar's director of marketing and sales programs, Jacinthe Gratton.

"This is a major contract that Ultramar has awarded to us and we are proud to have the opportunity to use our relational technologies to help provide Ultramar customers with an optimal shopping experience," said Fanbox president Daleyne Guay.

Ultramar launched the gift card program across its network on June 12, 2012.

Fanbox enables retailers to obtain, in real-time, the customer- and product-level information they need to deliver customized offers to the marketplace. Its patent-pending MS2 platform is simple to interface, scalable for growth and secure for financial transactions, the company said. Fanbox's solutions are built on three pillars, all of which rely on the MS2 platform: loyalty programs, gift cards or prepaid cards, the VIpass reward programs and Communi-T, the token-based payment solution for senior residences. Fanbox is based in Boucherville, Quebec, Canada.

Based in Montreal, Ultramar owns and operates a refinery that currently has a production capacity of 265,000 barrels of oil per day, at Levis, near Quebec City. It markets gasoline and diesel fuel via a network of close to 800 stations and convenience stores and 85 cardlocks for the trucking industry, in addition to selling home heating oil to some 140,000 customers. Ultramar Ltd., a subsidiary of Valero Energy Corp., employs more than 3,700 persons and its refining, distribution and retail sales networks contribute to supporting more than 10,000 jobs, making it one of the largest employers in Eastern Canada.
