VERC Receives Community Partnership Award

Retailer honored for hiring more than 10% of workforce from special needs community
DUXBURY, Mass. -- VERC Enterprises Inc., a leading independent convenience store and gasoline operation with 23 locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire, was the recent recipient of a Community Partnership Award from Minute Man Arc for Human Services Inc. in recognition of the company's policy to hire workforce from the special needs community.

Leo Vercollone, CEO of VERC Enterprises, accepted the award from Marty Martini, executive director of Minute Man Arc during the agency's annual meeting held on June 9.

Vercollone was honored for exceeding [image-nocss] a pledge made last fall to hire 10% of the VERC Enterprise workforce from the special needs community, a number that presently stands at 15.9%.

"VERC Enterprises reached out to Massachusetts-based employment programs in search of individuals to staff their convenience stores, gas stations and car washes, with Minute Man Arc providing five individuals who are now employed by VERC," said Martini. "We thank Leo for hiring from our populations, and for recognizing that all individuals want and need meaningful work in the communityhe is a true hero, making inclusion a reality for the individuals at Minute Man Arc."

Minute Man Arc was founded in 1958 by a group of local families to provide services for their children with disabilities. Over its 52 year history, the aency has grown into a full service provider offering programs and services to children and adults as well as their families.

"Our vision to employ at least 15% of our workforce with developmentally challenged individuals has become reality; it is a commitment we plan on honoring for many years to come," said Vercollone, adding, "It is a privilege to receive the Community Partnership Award from such a respected leader in the human services field as Minute Man Arc."

Currently, VERC Enterprises has more than 175 employees and is actively recruiting new associates and assistant managers.
