Wawa Raises Funds for...'Baba Wawa'

Retailer rounds up $700,000 for Gilda's Club at 'Movers. Shakers. Difference Makers.'

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Wawa Inc. has raised more than $700,000 for Gilda's Club South Jersey, a nonprofit organization that offers free emotional and social support for those living with cancer, their family and friends. A fundraising event, the 4th Annual "Movers. Shakers. Difference Makers." Luncheon, was held last week at The Palm Restaurant in Atlantic City, N.J. Wawa's president and CEO, Howard Stoeckel, spoke during the luncheon.

The luncheon and silent auction kicked off the Gilda's Club major gift effort to raise money for a permanent home. Gilda's Club South Jersey honored the [image-nocss] Wawa Charity Committee for its contributions. Wawa New Jersey Charities Committee designated Gilda's Club South Jersey as a recipient of all the change collected during several months of each year.

"I am accepting this award on behalf of our dedicated associates who have made a huge financial impact to many charities in our region, through their Community Giving Program, the Wawa Charities Fund, and in-store fundraisers," said Stoeckel. "Wawa has a tradition of supporting causes our associates are most concerned with, and in our corporate, regional and local efforts, it is our more than 16,000 associates who keep our commitment growing strong in every one of our charitable endeavors."

Gilda's Club is named for Gilda Radner, the Saturday Night Live comedienne who died of cancer in 1989.
