Weigel's Launches No-Purchase Gas Discount Card

Cardholders will be able to save up to 10 cents per gallon

POWELL, Tenn. -- Weigel's Stores is rolling out what it is calling "another market milestone" for customers of its 63 convenience stores in Knoxville and surrounding areas with its new Club Card, a no-purchase-necessary gasoline discount card. Club Card holders will be able to save up to 10 cents per gallon starting on Monday, May 20, 2013.

Weigel's Club Cards will be available at all Weigel's locations on May 20. Customers will be able to sign up for Club Cards online at Weigels.com by clicking on "Enroll Today."

The Club card gasoline price will be posted on pole signs at most Weigel's locations and will be available exclusively to Club Card holders. Members of Weigel's current Rewards Card program can convert their existing cards to Club Cards. Pump Start Rewards Cards must be exchanged for new Club Cards in order to activate the preferred payment discount. Some restrictions will apply. Rewards Card milk redemptions will not be affected.

Chairman and CEO Bill Weigel said his family's dairy was the first in Knoxville, Tenn., to pasteurize milk in 1935. By 1956 Weigel's milked more than 400 cows daily and led the industry with an innovative aluminum irrigation system, the first of its kind in East Tennessee. Bill Weigel opened Knoxville's first convenience store in 1964. In early 1967, Weigel's introduced the classic ICEE brand of frozen carbonated beverages to the Knoxville market--ICEE's first market in Tennessee. In 1970, Weigel's installed the first self-service gas pumps in Knoxville.

"We like to stay ahead of the curve and be the first to offer our customers innovative products and services," Weigel said. "The Club Card will be convenient and easy to use and will help families save money on gas. This is our way of thanking our customers for their business."

Powell, Tenn.-based Weigel's Stores Inc. is a family-owned business operating a dairy and c-stores throughout Knoxville and surrounding communities. Founded in 1931, Weigel's offers milk, coffee, foodservice and gasoline via its vertically integrated distribution channel.
