Wilson Farms Campaign Benefits Hospital

And Irving Oil renews sponsorship of aquarium's whale program
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Wilson Farms has again launche its annual paper balloon campaign to benefit the Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo. Beginning April 9, customers can stop into any Erie/Niagara-area Wilson Farms locations and purchase a paper balloon for $1 with 100% of the proceeds going to the hospital. The four-week campaign will end on May 2.

This is the third year Wilson Farms has partnered with Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo to raise funds for vital hospital equipment. Since its initial involvement in 2007, Wilson Farms and its customers have donated [image-nocss] more than $22,000 to the hospital through this balloon campaign.

Buffalo, N.Y.-based Wilson Farms Neighborhood Food Stores operates 190 convenience store and gas station locations across the state of New York.

Separately, Irving Oil Corp. has renew its sponsorship of the New England Aquarium's right whale research team. The year-long sponsorship is an extension of Irving Oil's previous sponsorship deal signed in 1998.

The oil refiner and distributor will provide operating funds for the Aquarium to track the endangered whale in their summer and fall feeding grounds in Canada's Bay of Fundy.

Once on the verge of extinction, a record number of right whale calves were found in winter nursery waters off the coast of the southeastern United States. The 39 whales found this year beats the previous record of 31 calves found in 2001. There are just over 400 right whales in the North Atlantic.

"This is an important environmental initiative and extremely productive relationship between Irving and the New England Aquarium," said Harry Hadiaris, general manager of Irving Oil Marketing Inc. "To hear that the right whales are having a record year in terms of births points to the fact that changing our shipping lanes, coupled with the vital research accomplished by the New England Aquarium team, may have had the positive impact we have long hoped for."

Financial terms of the sponsorship were not disclosed.Founded in 1924, Irving Oil, based in Saint John, New Brunswick, in Canada and Portsmouth, N.H., in the United States, is a leading regional refining and marketing company that serves retail, commercial, industrial and residential customers in Eastern Canada and New England with a range of finished energy products and complementary services. The company offers fuel at more than 700 locations in Atlantic Canada and New England, including company-operated, leased and independent sites.
