Offers free fillups in L.A.

LOS ANGELES -- Atkins Nutritionals Inc. offered 10,000 gallons of free gasoline to Los Angeles residents through the Atkins Advantage Fuels L.A. promotion. It provided the free fillups on a first-come, first-served basis as long as supplies lasted to drivers who brought in an Atkins Advantage nutrition bar to the United Oil Exxon gas station.

The pumps opened at 6:00 a.m., and gasoline was priced around $3.20 per gallon. It provided the free gasoline to about850 motorists.

Recipients of free gasoline also received a supply of complimentary [image-nocss] Atkins Advantage bars, including the Chocolate Chip Granola bar. And Atkins Advantage recently introduced a new line of Caramel bars with flavors like Caramel Fudge Brownie and Chocolate Peanut Nougat.

While Los Angeles residents are some of the most health-conscious and active people, they also have some of the nation's longest commutes and highest gasoline prices, the company said.

New York City-based Atkins Nutritionals is a portable nutrition foods company offering bars and shakes under the Atkins Advantage brand that have higher protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals, low sugar and no trans fats.
