SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Banana-snack company Barnana has launched a new organic ridged plantain chip.
Made from upcycled plantains and fried in organic coconut oil, Barnana’s Plantain Chips are paleo, grain-free and vegan, according to the company. The company is collaborating with indigenous farmers in the Amazon to source and certify the plantains for the new line of products.
The Plantain Chips come in three flavors: Himalayan Pink Sea Salt (made from ocean deposits inside the Himalayan Mountains), Acapulco Lime and Sea Salt & Vinegar with Apple Cider.
Barnana CEO Caue Suplicy said the first-of-its-kind chips’ uniqueness in its form, taste and packaging will “disrupt one of the biggest snacking categories.” The chips’ vibrant packaging even won the brand a Graphic Design USA award, the company said.
Santa Monica, Calif.-based Barnana’s products are USDA organic certified and Non-GMO Project verified. They use fair trade-certified chocolate and coffee and sustainable palm oil certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Its products include Plantain Chips, Banana Brittle and Banana Bites.
