AKRON, N.Y. -- Bubble-gum brand Big League Chew has added a new flavor to its roster: Big Rally Blue Raspberry. Released earlier this month, the product is currently available at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and will arrive at other U.S. retailers this summer. The flavor launch marks Big League Chew’s first product reveal since it debuted its gumball five-packs in May 2016.
Last summer, Big League Chew launched a social-media campaign asking for fans’ help in selecting the new gum flavor. In December 2017, founder Rob Nelson selected Big Rally Blue Raspberry from more than 300 fan entries.
“This is the first new flavor of bubble gum that we’ve released in years, and it’s always so exciting to see the fans’ reactions,” said Nelson. “We often hear fun alternative name suggestions for our current line of flavors, so it made sense to turn to our audience when naming our newest flavor. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy Big Rally Blue Raspberry.”
“Blue Raspberry is a popular flavor in kids’ candy, and it just made sense to bring this flavor to our top-selling brand,” said Steve Green, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Ford Gum & Machine, Big League Chew's parent company.
Big League Chew was founded in 1977 by former professional baseball players Rob Nelson and Jim Bouton. Its flavors include Outta’ Here Original, Ground Ball Grape, Swingin’ Sour Apple, Wild Pitch Watermelon, Curveball Cotton Candy and the new Big Rally Blue Raspberry. The brand was originally distributed by the Wrigley Co. before being acquired by Ford Gum & Machine Co. in 2010.
Akron, N.Y.-based Ford Gum & Machine manufactures products such as private-label gum and bulk vending confections and toys. Besides Big League Chew, its brands include Carousel gumball machines and Smarties candies.
