Nut company expands with new c-store, warehouse club deals

STOCKTON, Calif. -- Diamond Foods Inc., a branded food company specializing in processing, marketing and distributing culinary and snack nuts under the Diamond of California and Emerald of California brands, has announced new distribution expansion in the club and convenience store channels for the Emerald product line.

In the convenience store channel, it announced new agreements with Shell Entertainment and McLean Southeast. Shell is a 90-store chain based in Boston. McLean Southeast provides direct store delivery to 450 c-stores in Florida operated [image-nocss] under the Hess, Gate, Kwik King, Handy Pantry and Sparky's banners.

In the club channel, the Northeast division of Costco has placed an initial order for Emerald's Original Glazed Walnuts, while the Midwest division of Costco has placed an initial order for Emerald's Chocolate Brownie flavor. These orders are for new packages featuring two, 20-oz. containers and are expected to be on the shelves in the 65 Northeast Costcos and 39 Midwest Costcos by the upcoming holiday season.

Michael J. Mendes, president and CEO of the Stockton, Calif., company, said, The goal for fiscal 2006 is to at least double Emerald sales and this distribution expansion increases the opportunity for us to achieve our target.

Diamond specializes in processing, marketing and distributing culinary and snack nuts including walnuts, pine nuts, pecans, peanuts, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts, cashews, Brazil nuts and almonds.
