Goetze Candy Announces Give & Goetze Grand Prize Winner

Surprises scout troop with funds for summer camp

BALTIMORE -- Goetze's Candy Co. Inc. has officially declared the Grand Prize Winner of September's Give & Goetze Initiative: Pack 55 from the Northern New Jersey Council. The surprise announcement took place during the winning troop's meeting.

Unbeknownst to the scouts, the company sent a "top secret" package to the troop for their meeting. It contained a CD with the surprise announcement that Charles R. from their pack was the name drawn in the September's Give & Goetze contest. The company awarded Charles and his pack with a check in the amount of $1,000.

Pack leader Ken Blair and den leader Michael Sheridan said that the funds would be used towards future pack activities and to help subsidize kids to go to summer Camp.

The 2012 Give & Goetze initiative started with the September issue of Boys' Life magazine, in which scouts were asked to work together and solve a puzzle.

Goetze's awarded troop winners with Candy-Grams to personally deliver to a charity of their choice. The company placed all winning entries into the grand prize drawing for $1,000.

"We wanted to give the scouts the ability to spend some time really getting to know the people in their community while giving them a special treat," said John Leipold, director of sales & marketing at Goetze's. "[It is] another opportunity for troops to not only 'do a good turn daily, but do a sweet turn daily'."

Baltimore-based Goetze's is a fifth-generation, family-owned business that specializes in the combination of caramel and cream sweet treats. The company's current product line consists of two classic national brands, Caramel Creams and Cow Tales.
