Hearthside Acquires Oak State Products

Manufacturer of bars, baked goods grows to 24 facilities in U.S., Europe

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. -- Hearthside Food Solutions has acquired Oak State Products, a privately held contract manufacturer of cookies, bars and other baked foods based in Wenona, Ill. With the acquisition of Oak State and its production facility, the Hearthside production network expands to a total of 24 facilities. Of those, three are in Europe and the rest are in eight U.S. states.

Both Hearthside and Oak State are contract manufacturers for premier food companies and global brands, focusing on bars, cookies and crackers, granolas and cereals, snack components and customized packaging solutions.

“This is a functioning operation with an active customer base,” said Dwayne Hughes, Hearthside senior vice president of supply chain, of Oak State.

Hearthside founder and chairman Rich Scalise said that Oak State is an opportunity to add instant capacity. “Their flexible production lines complement our existing large scale lines, creating additional options for our customers,” Scalise said.

Hearthside Food Solutions, based in Downers Grove, Ill., is an independent baker and a full-service contract manufacturer of grain-based food, snack products and packaging for some of the world’s leading brands. In 2014, Hearthside was acquired by the merchant banking division of Goldman Sachs and Vestar Capital Partners.
