MINONG, Wis. -- Jack Link's Beef Jerky, a leading U.S. meat snack brand, has reached an agreement to acquire a packaged meat snack products manufacturing facility located in Bellevue, Neb., from Skylark Meats LLC, a subsidiary of American Foods Group LLC.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of October 2012, subject to customary closing conditions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition will enable Jack Link's to increase production capacity in order to meet growing consumer demand for the Jack Link's brand. The meat snacks category has grown nearly 13% in 2012 year-to-date [according to Nielsen], and this agreement will help to further position Jack Link's for future growth, the company said.
"Skylark Meat's Bellevue plant is a perfect fit for our business with an experienced workforce and management team," said Jack Link, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Jack Link's Beef Jerky. "The addition of this plant gives us the opportunity to expand on our existing manufacturing operations and enhance our ability to meet our customers' needs."
The Bellevue facility is a current co-packaging producer of some of Jack Link's meat snack products. Jack Link's plans to retain current management and employees at the Nebraska plant.
In other company news, Jack Link's is currently running the "Vote for Your Favorite Meathead" promotion. For the prize of a $5,000 "Snack Stimulus Package," consumers vote online for candidates 'Barack Obameat,' 'Meat Romney' or Sasquatch. The contest ends November 30.
Based in Minong, Wis., Jack Link's products are available in retail outlets worldwide.
