Jelly Roll, Trevol Join Snack Lineup

BP's ampm offers two-for-99-cents Hispanic dessert promotion
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- BP's ampm is hoping to once again appeal to the customer's sweet tooth with two classic Hispanic desserts for only 99 cents through the end of June. Customer at participating ampm's can purchase a jelly roll and a sugar cookie called a trevol or any combination of the two for 99 cents this month.

BP's ampm launched the desserts in May. They are available at all participating ampm convenience stores located in the eastern United States and ampm stores with bakeries in the western United States.

The jelly roll and trevol are the latest bakery [image-nocss] items in a lineup of ampm-exclusive Hispanic products, the company said. BP's ampm also sells Hispanic sweet breads known as conchas in two styles, white and chocolate. Both varieties of conchas have been popular with consumers and their success inspired the development of the jelly roll and trevol, it added.

"These two new desserts are just another way we are satisfying customers who enjoy traditional Hispanic food and flavors," said Andrew Baird, BP's vice president of marketing for convenience retail. "Our conchas are one of our top-five bestselling bakery items."

Like the conchas, the jelly roll and trevol are oven-baked fresh every day and are based on authentic Hispanic recipes.

True to its roots, the jelly roll is a mildly sweet, swirled white cake topped with pink icing and white coconut flakes. The triangle-shaped trevol is a sugar cookie iced with yellow, brown and pink frosting. The tricolored icing, one for each tip of the cookie, produces three corresponding flavors; vanilla, chocolate and strawberry.

"The Hispanic market is growing across the nation," Baird said. "We recognize this and have been introducing affordable, tasty products that appeal to this demographic for years. Having said that, you don't have to be of Hispanic heritage to enjoy one of these new treats."

The ampm brand was founded in 1978 in Southern California by Atlantic Richfield (ARCO), which was acquired by BP in 2000. ARCO-branded ampm stores are currently found in California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Arizona; BP-branded ampm stores are located in Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Atlanta.

BP supplies more than 15 billion gallons of gasoline every year to U.S. consumers through 12,000 retail outlets. BP is the single, global brand formed by the combination of the former British Petroleum, Amoco Corp., ARCO, ARAL and Burmah Castrol.
