McLane Debuts Grab & Go Gourmet Pastry Program for C-Stores

Offers baked goods including donuts, danishes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, cookies

TEMPLE, Texas -- McLane, a leading supply chain services company, has rolled out its new Grab & Go Gourmet Pastry program, a new foodservice offering for convenience stores. The retail program offers a turnkey solution with several options to help retailers increase their bottom line.

The demand for inexpensive prepared foods at convenience stores continues to increase, the company said, citing CSP's 2010 Category Management Handbook, which said that more than 40% of c-store shoppers have purchased foodservice items, and these customers are starting to demand [image-nocss] a greater variety of options. Among the food types purchased, breakfast foods are consistently the most popular category.

McLane's pastry program addresses this demand by offering c-stores an extensive selection of premium quality and affordable baked goods, including donuts, Danishes, cinnamon rolls, brownies and cookies. The program also provides acrylic merchandisers in a variety of sizes and configurations, allowing retailers to tailor their selection to suit each store and customer base.

"Many retailers have neglected to capitalize on the growing demand for c-store prepared foods, and the breakfast category in particular," said Grant Demers, product director for foodservice and supplies for McLane. "Our Grab & Go Gourmet Pastry program offers retailers a stress-free entry into this profitable segment with a wide range of value-priced products and merchandising recommendations to provide dedicated shelf space that conveys a commitment to quality, safety and variety."

McLane's Grab & Go Gourmet Pastry program is an economical way for retailers to enter into the foodservice category or refresh existing programs in certain markets, said the company.

Temple, Texas-based McLane is a $30 billion supply chain services leader providing grocery and foodservice supply-chain solutions for thousands of convenience stores, mass merchants, drug stores and military locations, as well as thousands of chain restaurants throughout the United States. With 38 distribution centers and one of the nation's largest private fleets, the company optimizes the purchase, flow and sale of products from thousands of suppliers to more than 54,000 locations. McLane is a wholly owned unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Omaha.
