Obama the Topps

President-elect to be featured on trading cards
NEW YORK -- The Topps Co. Inc., the maker of commemorative sports memorabilia and Bazooka gum, is unveiling 90 "Inaugural Edition" American Heritage trading cards spanning the life of President-elect Barack Obama, according to a report by The Chicago Tribune.

The color photo collectibles feature Obama facts and quotes. The cards document the 47-year-old's political life, including his time as an Illinois senator and his presidential acceptance speech, said the report.

The cards also feature snapshots from Obama's childhood in Hawaii, his time in law school [image-nocss] at Harvard and his work as a Chicago community organizer, the report added.

A Topps spokesperson told the newspaper that the collection carries the New York City-based company's tradition of documenting significant and newsworthy moments.

The cards will be sold for $1.99 in foil-sealed packs of six before the January inauguration, the Tribune said.

The American Heritage line will fuse the popular Topps Heritage brand name, a selection of classic Topps designs as well as new designs and "tell the story of our country, The United States, through sports, politics, the arts and pop culture," Topps said on its website. The set will be accompanied by an array of autographs, relic cards and cut signatures from every U.S. president, said the company.

Earlier this year, Topps issued a 12-card insert in its 2008 Topps Baseball product called "Campaign 2008" featuring Barack Obama, John McCain, Joe Biden and nine other presidential hopefuls.
