AUSTIN, Texas -- SkinnyPop Popcorn LLC has announced that it has acquired the Paqui brand of “better-for-you” tortilla chips and tortillas, and that Paqui will immediately become a sibling brand to SkinnyPop in the better-for-you family of snack-food brands.
Paqui (pronounced pah-kee) is an Aztec word that means “to be happy.”
Austin, Texas-based Paqui sells tortillas and tortilla chips that are crafted with unbleached, untreated flour, or by stone grinding corn and adding flavors using ingredients such as fire-roasted jalapenos, fresh cilantro leaves, buttermilk, pumpkin and other spices and flavors.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Paqui brand to the better-for-you family of snack-food brands,” said Tom Ennis, president and CEO of SkinnyPop. “Paqui brand tortilla chips are some of the best chips I’ve ever tasted, and we are excited about using the SkinnyPop platform to help introduce the Paqui brand to more consumers around the country.”
“At Paqui, we have always been committed to making tortilla chips and tortillas that not only taste great, but that are better-for-you as well,” said Doug Lyon, founder of Paqui. “Tom and his team at SkinnyPop have the same mission and we are excited to join this family of better-for-you snack food brands.”
Lyon joins SkinnyPop as vice president of creative and innovation, effective immediately.
Founded in 2010, Boston-based SkinnyPop is a marketer of ready-to-eat, "better-for-you" popcorn products.
