Stewart's Concocts Chocko Jocko Bailey

New ice cream flavor honors famed jockey

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Convenience store and dairy retailer Stewart's Shops has created a new ice cream flavor to honor Jerry Bailey, the all-time winning jockey at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., said The Business Review of Albany.

The new Chocko Jocko Bailey, made of dark chocolate and black sweet cherries, went on sale yesterday after 7, but the c-store chain offered customers a preview tasting last Friday and one location.

Bailey, who hung up his racing silks last year and now works as an analyst for ESPN, won 611 races at Saratoga Race Course.

The new ice cream is part of a tribute to Bailey that will be held at the track August 13 that includes having a race named after him and a free poster for fans, the company said.

We asked him what some of his favorite items are for ice cream, and he told us, and one of them was chocolate, and so we decided to come up with this flavor," Jackie Chandler of Stewart's told Capital News 9-TV.

Currently, there are more than 300 Stewart's Shopsmostly in New York, with some locations in Vermont. Along with dairy products, the Saratoga Springs-based company also carries a complete line of convenience groceries and food-to-go items, and offers ATM services and gasoline in mostlocations.
