Thorntons Selling Texas Roadhouse Peanuts

Retailer also announces winner of Text-to-Win Sweepstakes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons Inc. has teamed up with Texas Roadhouse to offer packaged peanuts at all Thorntons convenience stores, reported Business First Louisville.

Texas Roadhouse designed the packaging for the peanuts, which Thorntons buys from Texas Roadhouse's peanut supplier. The peanuts hit store shelves in September, and a seven-ounce bag sells for $1.49, said the report.

The partnership marks the first time Texas Roadhouse--a chain of more than 350 steakhouses in 46 states, famous for its peanuts--has put a price on its peanuts, Travis Doster, the company's director of media relations, told the newspaper. "We usually give them away."

Texas Roadhouse spends $20 million each year on the peanuts, the report added.

In other company news, Thorntons has announced the winner of its 2011 Text-to-Win Sweepstakes--Jody Kistlers of Lyons, Ill. The sweepstakes was part of Thorntons summer-long promotion, kicking off the company's 40th anniversary celebration.

The contest began on May 25 at all 162 Thorntons stores.

Customers entered the contest simply by texting the word "explorer" to #313131 or entered by mail (no purchase necessary). Thorntons held weekly prize drawings throughout the months of June, July and August, and for the grand prize, awarded one winner a 2011 Ford Explorer.

The grand prize drawing took place on September 23, and Kistlers' name was drawn from more than 40,000 entries. On October 4, Thorntons awarded Kistlers the keys to the Explorer and a $1,000 Thorntons gift card.

Based in Louisville, Ky., Thorntons operates 162 gasoline and convenience stores, car washes and travel plazas in five states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. It distributes its petroleum products through its wholly owned Thornton Transportation Co. and operates a river bulk storage terminal in Louisville.
