Wrigley Offers Peek at New Products, Packaging

New Eclipse, Orbit, Extra, 5, Altoids flavors, more, slated for summer

CHICAGO -- The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. gave visitors to the All Candy Expo in Chicago a first look at Eclipse gum and mints, which the company earlier announced will be the first in the U.S. to include magnolia bark extract (MBE), a natural ingredient to help kill the germs that cause bad breath. This breakthrough follows a 2007 Wrigley study that revealed the germ-killing benefits found in MBE, which has origins in traditional Chinese medicine. The company also touted other packaging and flavor innovations at the show.

Eclipse gum with MBE will appear on store shelves this summer in Spearmint, [image-nocss] Winterfrost, Polar Ice, Peppermint and new Fresh & Cool flavors with a suggested retail price of $1.09 for the 12-pellet pack and $2.99 for the Big-E-Pak. Eclipse mints with MBE will be available in September 2008 in Spearmint, Peppermint, Winterfrost and Cinnamon Inferno with a suggested retail price of $1.49.

Additional 2008 packaging and flavor innovations from Wrigley include:

Slim Pack: A sleek, 15-stick envelope package that is more durable and portable for today's consumers. The new packaging is coupled with significant flavor improvements across both Extra and Wrigley's Brands (Juicy Fruit, Doublemint, Big Red, Winterfresh and Wrigley's Spearmint). Extra Fruit Sensations: A new sugar-free line from Extra will come conveniently packaged in Wrigley's new Slim Pack in four fruit flavors, including Strawberry Banana, Berry Pearadise, Island Cooler and Sweet Watermelon. To celebrate the launch, Extra Fruit Sensations will be an official sponsor of Fox's So You Think You Can Dance this summer. Orbit Sangria Fresca and Fabulous Fruitini: The gum will introduce two new fruit flavors in response to growth in the fruit category. Fabulous Fruitini is a mix of fruit flavors. Sangria Fresca, a sweet berry flavor with a citrus twist, reflects the popular infusion of Latin flavors in the United States. 5 Lush and Elixir: Introduced in spring 2007, 5 is a sugar-free stick gum. 5 will enter the rapidly growing fruit-flavored gum segment by introducing two new flavors, Lush and Elixir. Elixir is a berry flavor, while Lush offers a tropical flavor. Both new flavors will come in the signature sleek, black envelope pack. Altoids Creme de Menthe: Altoids Creme de Menthe mints combine the sweet flavor of Creme de Menthe with Altoids Curiously Strong Mints, offering consumers a completely new Altoids experience. Creme de Menthe is the first major Altoids classic mint flavor innovation for the mint brand since Spearmint was introduced in 2003. The new mints will also be available in Altoids Dark Chocolate Dipped Mints.

Chicago-based Wrigley's offerings include gum, mints, hard and chewy candies, lollipops, and chocolate. Brands include Wrigley's Spearmint, Juicy Fruit, Altoids, Doublemint, Life Savers, Big Red, Boomer, Pim Pom, Winterfresh, Extra, Freedent, Hubba Bubba, Orbit, Excel, Creme Savers, Eclipse, Airwaves, Solano, Sugus, P.K., Cool Air and 5.
