The 411 on New Cigarette Labels
FDA hosts webinars on new cigarette packaging, advertisement warnings today
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- The U.S. Food & Drug Administration's Center for Tobacco Products (FDA CTP) will host two webinars today--one for retailers and one for manufacturers--on "Required Warnings for Cigarette Packages & Advertisements." The webinars will provide information on how to comply with the recently issued rule requiring new cigarette health warnings on packaging and advertising.
In June, the FDA unveiled the nine graphic health warnings required to appear on every pack of cigarettes sold in the United States and in every cigarette advertisement. The warnings [image-nocss] represent the most significant changes to cigarette labels in more than 25 years and will affect everything from packaging to advertisements and are required to be placed on all cigarette packs, cartons and ads no later than September 2012.

These warnings, which were proposed in November 2010, were required under the Family Smoking Prevention & Tobacco Control Act, which was passed in Congress and was signed into law by President Obama on June 22, 2009.
