Cancer-Free Zone'

No smokes for "all-natural" station

BOULDER, Colo. -- Moto Motor Markets has opened its doors in Boulder, Colo. The location is a combination gas station/convenience store/natural foods store and is the creation of owner Michael Marsilio. In keeping with the "natural" theme, the store does not sell cigarettes.

Marsilio calls the store a "cancer-free zone," reported The Boulder County Business Report. "People say you can't exist without selling cigarettes," he told the newspaper. "But we'll try.

Built in 1960, the station has always been owned by Sinclair Oil. In [image-nocss] April 2007, Sinclair closed the station, and Marsilio put in a bid to lease the building. According to the report, he had a dream of opening a station like those he had seen in Italy where people buy coffee, beer or wine while they are gassing up.

Sinclair continues to provide the gasoline and set the price of the fuel.

Marsilio has stocked the store with all-natural products, the report said. Even the candies are nonconventional brands. He currently has no perishable foods like meat, fruit or vegetables.

The station also offers pump-side recycling and plans to have a farmers' market in the station's parking lot this summer, the report added.

Marsilio plans to open 25 more Moto Motor Markets along the Front Range in communities that do not have natural products options.
