MINNEAPOLIS -- Mitch Zeller, director of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), will be a keynote presenter at the 2016 NATO Show.
Zeller will speak to NATO Show attendees Thursday, April 21.
Specifically, Zeller will be giving a presentation on current FDA research underway on tobacco-related products, some of the initial findings of the long-term Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) study sponsored by the FDA and the National Institute of Health (NIH), the role of nicotine in overall tobacco product regulation and the continuum of risk for various kinds of tobacco products.
The PATH study began in 2013 and will continue through 2022. Its purpose is to gain a better understanding of tobacco use behaviors. The study is following 46,000 U.S. residents ages 12 and older who use and do not use tobacco products. The FDA may rely on the final findings of the PATH study to propose additional tobacco regulations.
As a part of the FDA seminar at the NATO Show, Zeller will participate in a panel discussion with NATO president Frank Armstrong, NATO retail member Matthew Durand of Cumberland Farms and NATO executive director Tom Briant.
The FDA seminar is one of the critically important educational seminars for tobacco retailers at the NATO Show. The other seminars include a presentation on the “State of Tobacco” by Bonnie Herzog of Wells Fargo Securities; an update on FDA regulations and local and state tobacco legislation by Briant; “Marketplace Trends and Insights” by Don Burke of Management Science Associates; two concurrent sessions, with one on premium cigars by Michael Herklots of Nat Sherman Co. and one session on domestic cigars presented by Joe Teller of Swedish Match; and an in-depth look at “Maximizing E-Vapor Sales and Profits” with Keith Canning of Pine State Trading.
There is still time to register to attend the NATO Show, which is being held April 19-21 at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. To learn more about the show, visit www.NATOShow.com; to register, click on the “Attendee” tab and then click “Get a Badge” to register online.
