OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- In the spirit of surprising flavor pairings, Convenience Store Products offers this collection of unexpected flavors showcased in the New Product Gallery during CSP’s Convenience Retailing University (CRU) conference, Feb. 22-25 in Dallas.
- We begin with test-case M&M’s flavors Honey Nut, Chili Nut and Coffee Nut, which will hit shelves March 1. Through June 17, consumers will be encouraged to buy and taste all the flavors and vote on their favorite. The winner will be available in “open stock” by August and then in mixed display cases by September.
- PepsiCo’s Frito is pitting various flavors of its Lay’s Potato Chips in its spring Flavor Swap campaign. Again, consumers will decide which flavors they prefer in four face offs: Cheddar & Sour Cream vs. Smoked Gouda & Chive, Honey Barbecue vs. Korean Barbecue, Flamin’ Hot vs. Fiery Roasted Habanero, and Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper vs. Olive Oil & Herbs. As the promotion suggests, in each contest, “One stays. One goes.”
- India pale ale (IPA) has been one of the most sought-after tastes in beers for a couple years running. For obvious reasons, Boston Beer Co. has capitalized on that with multiple IPA offerings. Its latest, however, is the most head-scratching: Rebel IPA Grapefruit. The flavors are remarkably complementary, but if you thought IPAs were already bitter, you ain’t drank nothing yet!
