Every store joining Local will be identified by its hometown ZIP code, making the Brandon station Local Zip 57005.

In addition to Brandon 1st Stop, other stores throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and North Dakota have joined up with Local, said the report.

Local will offer c-store owners better competitive flexibility and the ability to remain strong supporters of their local communities, Howes Oil owner Andy Howes told the newspaper.

"The backbone of South Dakota is its locally owned and operated businesses," he said. "The goal of Local is to help these companies not only remain competitive for future generations, but also continue to be strong supporters of their local communities."

He added, "We're excited to be partnering with the folks at Brandon 1st Stop and appreciate the opportunity to give consumers options to keep supporting their local economy. That's our No. 1 goal: to keep it local."
