In a deal that strategically expands its regional network, Atlas is acquiring 33 more retail locations in southwestern Chicagoland and northwestern Indiana from [image-nocss] BP. The acquisition brings Atlas Oil's total BP station count in the area to 113.
The sale is expected to close in mid-June. Terms were not disclosed.
This is Atlas Oil's third major acquisition from BP in the last year. Other transactions include the purchase of 23 sites in September 2008 as well as another 57 sites in January 2009. When complete, Atlas Oil will manage the supply of nearly 400 retail locations in 10 states.
Karen Johnson, marketing analyst for Atlas Oil, told Crain's that the expansion is expected to mean new hires for the company in its marketing, accounting, transportation and sales departments. Five to 10 new people will be needed in accounting, transportation management and other departments in Taylor, while sales staff and drivers likely will be needed at a regional Atlas Oil office in Granger, Ind., the report said.
The new hires would increase Atlas' workforce to nearly 400 employees companywide, the report added.
Atlas Oil is a national fuel distributor and fuel supply management provider that meets the fuel distribution and service needs of businesses, governments and more than 375 gas stations in 19 states and Ontario, Canada. The company has operational centers in Indiana, Texas and Ohio.
