Blood for Gas

Promotion drives donations, gives away gasoline

EL PASO, Texas -- Customers who donated blood at several Howdy's Food Marts across El Paso and Las Cruces, Texas, received 10 gallons of free gas this past holiday season.

United Blood Services and Howdy's convenience stores teamed up to maintain the area's blood supply, according to KDBC 4 News. Each person who donated blood at one of the five participating locations received 10 gallons of gas courtesy of Howdy's.

Following the drive, the blood bank reported an adequate blood supply for 18 area hospitals, but United [image-nocss] Blood Services said it's always important to have an ample blood supply.

The Howdy's Food Mart convenience-store chain is owned and operated by Transmountain Oil Co., El Paso, Texas. Howdy's stores feature either the Shell or Western brands of fuel at each location.
